Southern Highlands Woodturners
Bus trip to Canberra Woodshow
September 8th 2002

This was the second annual trip to Canberra for the 2002 Canberra Woodshow.

The time was 7.30 am, weather was fine, the Community Bus was full with 20 members, and we were all keen to have a good day. First stop Lake George for a cuppa and pit stop, but it was so windy we had trouble keeping the coffee in the cup. Needless to say we had no problems getting the passengers back on the bus.

Then on to Canberra where we soon arrived to view the Woodshow.

This show is proving to be an excellent show with a comprehensive list of exhibitors and growing each year. This year the noted improvements were the Carbetec Stand and the Timbercon stand, with McJing displaying for the first time. An excellent display of wood was on hand for purchasers and in general good prices and specials were on hand for buyers.

Part of the day was also put aside to make our annual visit to the Bungendore Woodworks, and it is here that we realise that we all have a little more work to do on out techniques. Beautifully crafted items, which can only make one drool.

Home we go, and our lucky draw prize was won this year by Bessie Akrigg.

We all agreed that this trip was an excellent day out, and no doubt it will be on the agenda again next year.

Thank you Bob Miller for being our volunteer driver for the day, and for getting us there and back safely.
